This single phonics pack focuses on initial consonant blend ‘dr’ CCVC words. As with the other consonant blends packs: it is child-centred child-friendly and a step up from CVC and CCV to Phase 4: Letters and Sounds Phonics. It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends. This smaller pack contains: Lesson Plan with learning objectives, lesson starter, main activities and plenary - You can choose which parts are relevant to your class. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the plan. PowerPoint Presentation 1 - includes explanation of initial blend, CCVC words and whole class activities to prepare children for their independent activities. PowerPoint Presentation Phoneme Count - Again, as in the others, I have listed all the CCVC words and the units of sound above the fingers so that children can see and hear the separate phonemes (with pictures). Encourage children to make simple sentences with the words to understand its meaning and distinguish between nouns, verbs or adjectives. Flash cards and words with and without sound buttons and lines. Set of pictures and words for matching activities. Differentiated Activity Sheets 1, 2, 3 - for cut/paste work, writing sentences and reading and matching words to pictures. Relates to Letters and Sounds: Phase 4 CCVC (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) words. The vowel will represent one sound and can be a vowel, digraph or trigraph, e.g. fright - f-r-igh-t. Aimed at: Years 1 and 2 and/or children still finding it challenging to segment and blend, ESL/EFL students and SEN students. Use in English language learning classes - use pictures as a visual prompt to segment and blend words. This pack includes Teacher Notes 4 sets of differentiated initial consonant blend strips - each set contains 21 initial consonant blends. Plain strips - Children look at the picture, read the word and write it out. Trace over dots strip - Children look at picture, trace over dots and then write out the word Trace over dash lines - Children practise tracing over the words Jumbled word strip - Using the picture as a clue, children sound out and write the word correctly. handy for early finishers. suitable for use in small group settings Children can practise reading, segmenting and blending words. Discriminate between initial blends beginning with the same phoneme - clap-crab. As an extension: Write up the word in their workbooks and write a simple sentence with the word using it as a verb, noun or adjective. Optional: Print, laminate and cut out. This resource relates to St. George’s Day (23 April). In contains: A Presentation (48 Slides) on St. George. The presentation starts with a welcome to the whole school. It then shows a stain glass window of St George and arrows pointing to the cross and the shield with St. George cross. There are questions and answers throughout the presentation to involve the children. It is divided into sections:- Background to St. George’s life Courage Around the World The Legend Celebrations Reflections It ends with a prayer relating to courage. A detailed Teacher’s notes on assembly referring to each slide Follow-up worksheet There are follow-up activities in the presentation that children can find out about using non-fiction books and the ICT, e.g. find out more about countries that celebrate St. George’s Day. I have uploaded a set of time-saving worksheets relating to upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. Aimed at: Reception/KS1 Total worksheets: 40 Description of resources: • Set 1 Worksheets – Select the correct initial letters for pictures; • Set 2 Worksheets – Select 6 correct initial letters out of the 8 from the rectangle to write below the pictures ; • Set 3 Worksheets – Select correct initial capital letter from circle to complete each word; • Set 4 Worksheets – Each box contains two pictures beginning with the same initial letters. Students write the initial alphabet letter for the pictures. • Set 5 Worksheets – Fill in the missing letter to complete the word then rewrite the whole word in capital letters. • Set 6 Worksheets – The pictures in each box start with different initial alphabet letters. Students write the initial letters below each picture in their best handwriting to practise mid-zone letters, ascender and descender letters. E.g. if the two pictures are a jug and a table, the student writes the ‘j’ (descender) and ‘t’ (ascender) on the handwriting lines. I have included some completed examples of worksheets. This product relates to alphabet activities for Reception/Year 1, SEN and ESL/EFL/ESOL. Learning Objectives: To begin to learn about alphabetic order and matching upper to lower case letters. To identify initial sounds. Content: • Teacher’s notes • 2 Sets of Aa-Zz puzzle pieces – Cut/paste • Aa-Zz -Matching letters of the alphabet to pictures • Aa-Zz - Tracing over letters and matching to pictures Description Cut and Paste to match Puzzle pieces Place a selection of Aa – Zz puzzle sheets on tables for children to cut out and match upper and lower case letters and stick into workbook or on a separate sheet of paper. They can trace inside the letters with different colour pencils (rainbow tracing). For the capital letter part of the puzzle ask children to write words beginning with capital letters such as their name if it begins with that letter, a city, day or month, a place of interest etc and draw pictures. For the lower case part of the puzzle, ask children to write and draw things beginning with that letter that does not always begin with a capital letter. Please see sample preview in preview pane. Matching letters to pictures and colour activity ‘Aa is for’ to ‘Zz is for’ activity – tell children they need to colour in the picture that begins with that letter and not to colour in the other pictures. Tracing over letters and matching to pictures This alphabet activity is similar to the above except that the children trace over the dots. **This resource relates to repeated addition and arrays to visualize multiplication. ** Aimed at: Year 1/2 and Lower Keystage 2, and SEND. PowerPoint Presentation (24 Slides) contains: Illustration and explanation of arrays (rows and columns) How we read the arrays What is repeated addition and how it is written (2 + 2 + 2 = 3 lots of 2 = 2 x 3), i.e 2 repeated 3 times. Whole class activity on describing an array on their whiteboards There are 3 worksheets:- Activity 1 (2 pages) - Children write repeated additions for the arrays shown. Children that require support with the activities can write one repeated addition e.g. 2 + 2 + 2 whereas a more able child will be able to write two addition models: 2 + 2 + 2 and 3 + 3. Activity 2 (2 pages) - (Extension) Same as above but the arrays are larger. There is a small section on the worksheets where it asks children to show 3 lots of 4 and then circle the groups. Activity 3 (8 pages)- Cut and Paste activity - The activity involves children cutting out buttons and arranging them in an array according to what is asked in the boxes: e.g. 5 x 2, so the student cuts out 2 lots of 5 buttons (10) and form them in an array, e.g. 5 buttons in a row and 2 columns. Extension for more able: On Activity Sheets 1 and 2 - The children can write the multiplication number sentence inside the box below their repeated additions- 2 + 2 + 2 2 X 3 = 6 3 + 3 3 X 2 = 6 Learning Objectives: To know that multiplication is related to repeated addition To learn that arrays arranged in rows and columns helps us to work out a multiplication sums.
